Networking Lunch at JW Marriott. Special focus on Canada Tourism
A Skål International Networking lunch was hosted at the J.W. Marriott’s Indus Ballroom on the 14th of January 2020, with a special focus on Canada Tourism.
70 Skål International members joined the event, with special invitees Mr. Carl Vaz, CEO & Strategy Director Destination Canada, India GSA, Chairman & CEO - Charson Advisory Services and 1st Vice President - Skål International India, along with Ms. Anindita Buragohain from the High Commission of Canada, India.
The registration started from 1130 A.M after which the members & guests networked over tea and coffee before settling down for the start of the meeting. Skål International Kolkata 127’s President Mr. Sanjeev Mehra cordially welcomed the members and guests, specially thanking them for attending the 1st ever Networking meeting in the East. He then welcomed Mr. Carl Vaz to take over. Mr. Vaz also expressed his thanks for the invitation and to the members for attending to the same. He went on to make a lovely presentation on Canada, with special mentions on destinations which are usually not visited and other details like culture, food and climates and best times for visits, with a wonderful AV presentation. It was followed by questions from the members about itineraries and other details.
Post that Ms. Anindita Buragohain went on to present a workshop on the latest information on Canada visas and the documentation involved. This was very appreciated by the travel agents, who had multiple questions about visas and processes.
After these presentations, gifts and certificates were given to a few of the dignitaries by Mr. Mehra and a few important Skål International members, the guests moved on to the cake cutting ceremony. The cake had a theme of Skål International and Canada Tourism.
The guests went on to lunch post this, a grand spread. Members intermingled and networked over lunch, exchanging pleasantries. The members dispersed showing their appreciation for hosting such a wonderful event and expecting many more similar ones.

First Member Meeting of the Decade 2020 at The Chancery Pavillion took place on the 31st January.
The Coronavirus has been rampant in China and has spread to other Countries. We at Skål International Bangalore felt the need to create awareness right from our own Club. Sanitize your hands frequently and be aware not to touch your face was the message. Until date, there is no antidote so self-awareness is the only way right now.
President Sk Manoj Mathew gave the members an update on the news of the virus and how it is affecting our business as travel professionals, hospitality and as travellers.
He also gave the members and their guests a brief of Skål International and Digital Transformation, benefits of being a Skålleague and shared a personal experience he enjoyed.
3 new members were inducted this day. They took the Skål International Oath, got their Skål International Pins and Certificates.
‘Know Your Skalleague’ 2 members were Introduced through a short PowerPoint Presentation, where we got to know the Professional and well as the personal side of these two members, what they wish to contribute to Skål International Bangalore and how they have benefitted from the club so far.
In a Fun ICEbreaker session… we had a quiz on the London Underground Stations where we had teams of 4 members each… consisting of members of varied Classifications. This exercise was not only to test our knowledge of the London Underground but to get members of different Classification to mix and communicate…. Best of all it was great fun!! Mission accomplished!!!

Beyond the usual Skål International formalities and networking sessions, the highlight of the evening was the exceptional hospitality put up by the Fortune Hotel Team under the dynamic leadership of the General Manager Ajay Sharma.
Right from the arrival, there was a distinct ‘sense of the place’. The themed décor, the layout of live food counters, well stocked bar, excellent seating and stage arrangements filled with an air of festivities reflected the genuine eagerness to offer a memorable experience for all of us Skålleagues.
Executive Chef Mahesh and his team went ‘the proverbial extra mile’ to showcase multicuisine array of exotic dishes. GM Ajay Sharma, who is a member of the Skål Club of Bangalore, set a new benchmark in Skål International Networking Events.
Periyar Tiger Reserve winner of 2019 Skål International Sustainable Tourism Award - Community & Government Projects
Happy to announce that Periyar Tiger Reserve, Thekkady (Idukki District, Forest & Wildlife Department, Government of Kerala) was selected as the Global winner of 2019 Skål International Sustainable Tourism Award-Community & Government Projects among the 56 nominations from 25 countries all over the world. The award was presented to Mr. P.K. Kesavan IFS, Head of Forest Force in the presence of Mr. Surendra Kumar, IFS, Chief Wildlife Warden of Kerala, Mr. Anoop IFS, Field Director Periyar Tiger Reserve and Smt. Silpa V. Kumar, IFS, Deputy Director, PTR , yesterday at the Forest Department Headquarters, Vazhuthacaud, Trivandrum.
Alex T Jacob President – Skål International Trivandrum presented the award and the Sk Varghese Oommen presented the shield of appreciation.
Skål International Goa
Young Skål Club of Goa organised a talk on 'Safe Food for Good Health' on Friday, February 28th, 2020.
The talk was held at the Institute of Hotel Management, Porvorim, Goa and was conducted by Mr. R Krishnan, a food safety consultant by profession. He explained in detail about FSSAI, HACCP, Codex, various hazards and illustrated in detail 'Safe Food for Good Health'.
Besides the Members of Young Skål Club of Goa and a few other students of the Institute, the talk was attended by Skålleague Shekhar Divadkar, Charles Bonifacio, Menino Proenca, Bush Miranda, Reshma Alves, and Carl Costa.
